AXIS includes but is not limited to customer experience; its unit is the stakeholder moment, which can apply to customers, members, employees, partners, or internal users, consistent with broad definitions of UX as interaction with a company’s services and products and with stakeholder value framing.
A touchpoint is a way a customer interacts with an organization; a moment is the judgment outcome that may be formed at or across touchpoints. The distinction matters because touchpoints can be redesigned without reliably changing the judgment, while AXIS targets the judged outcome itself.
AXIS does not require a specific architecture style, but it assumes the enterprise can detect state changes and coordinate responses across decoupled services. Event-driven architecture is a common way to achieve that, explicitly using events to trigger and communicate between decoupled services.
Without common event formats, teams repeatedly re-learn consumption patterns and cannot reuse tooling; CloudEvents is a widely adopted specification intended to describe event data in a common way for interoperability across services, platforms, and systems.
AXIS treats moment telemetry as cross-domain: business outcome metrics plus technical observability correlation. Distributed tracing explicitly focuses on correlation across systems and produces an end-to-end view, which is required to connect experience outcomes to system behavior.
By enforcing Layer 1 discipline (moment promise and boundaries), limiting metrics to a small set that includes at least one stakeholder outcome and one business outcome, and requiring a governance cadence that ties measurement to decisions. This aligns to portfolio governance disciplines and outcomes-over-output doctrine.
No. AXIS is a specialized reference architecture and method focused on experience outcomes, designed to integrate into broader architecture development cycles and governance structures and to contribute reusable assets into the architecture repository over time.
